Judith Gayle, An International Gospel Music Minister from Jamaica In This Interview with El Levite Narrates How She Met Jesus, And Other Revealing Testimonies.

El: You are welcome to El Levite blog, a platform created to enable gospel music ministers tell their own stories to the world.

El: Can you tell us more about Judith Gayle?

Judith: I love Jesus with all my heart, I will not settle for what men say I am, but who God says I am, I love people regardless of who they are. I believe that all have us have the same opportunity in life, it depends on how hard we are willing to work for it. I also believe in winning the lost at all cost.

El: How was growing up like?

Judith: It wasn’t easy especially because my mother was just my father’s helper; she had to give in to his abuse. I grew up not having what other children have like the toys, the proper food to eat. I would go to school with holes in my shoes and would have to walk even 10 miles to get there, but I learn to be satisfied with what we were given and respect my mother and what she could afford.

El: At what stage in life did you find yourself into music?

Judith: When I was about 6 years old my mother told me how taking the mini buses I would sing and people would give her money for me. It started like that. I would sing at churches when they would have mini concerts or Sunday school programmes, later in my teen age years I would visit my brother in one of our tourist area in Jamaica called Negril, he had some cottages on the beach side and I would sing for the tourist until I was discovered to start working in the hotel industry as a cabaret singer. I would enter singing competition and win, one such was the national song competition in Jamaica in 1998 where I came second, and the year after winning I got saved.

El: You have worked with reggae giants like Beres Hammond, Richie Stephens and our own Marion Hall (formerly Lady Saw); can you share with us your experiences?

Judith: I was a back ground singer for Richie Stephens, did a song with Marion Hall and had an audition to sing with Beres Hammond. The experience with these artists was great, it has allowed me to develop my gift and gain experience on many level. Now I have learnt from the world I bring that level of experience to the church, it wasn’t bad after all.

El: How did this transformation happen? Your encounter with Jesus.

Judith: I found myself crying one night and couldn’t understand why, I heard a voice say pray and I refuse to because I was not ready to give my life back to the Lord. I got up from the bed and stood by it. I refuse to kneel when I felt like someone hit me from behind in my knees and I fell on the ground. I fully understood the scripture that day ‘every knee shall bow’. That weekend I went to the country and stopped by the old church I attended as a little girl and gave my life to the Lord.’

El: A phrase in you biography said, you “were saved from a comfortable but empty life” can you explain?

Judith: I had so much wealth when I was in the world, yet I was unhappy. Something was missing, there was always this void and no matter what I possess as wealth and fame it was only an outward show, my inner man was lacking something. So though I seem comfortable at the time with all the business I own etc, I was empty of true wealth which is the “Holy Spirit presence” inside of me.

El: Three beautiful albums already to your credit, congratulations, tell us more about them Sister Judith.

Judith: It’s not three albums, it’s 6 now.

El: Wow!!! my bad (laughs)

Judith: They all speak volume to the incredible love God has for us and that no power on earth or in heaven is greater than His sacrifice for us.

El: Your songs are deep, inspirational, motivational, and educative, entertaining too, what inspires your song writing?

El: My struggles bring them out, while I go through and He brings me out, I am empowered to tell others how much he cares. I am excited to always put my penned songs to music because I know they will deliver someone from something.

El: What can you say your journey as a Christian is like so far?

Judith: Interesting, empowering, strengthening, renewing, transforming, engaging, compelling and anticipating.

El: What is the future like?

Judith: Bright and beautiful

El: A word of encouragement to the people out there.

Judith: Chase after God, let no man tell you otherwise than that Jesus is all we need to make us complete. Look to no other source than he who call this world into existence, He who created you and I. Trust Him with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding, acknowledge him with all thine heart and He will direct thy path.
